- Abstract:
- Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems have excellent potential to improve the regular operation and maintenance of structures. Wireless Networks (WN) are used to avoid the high cost of traditional wired systems. The main disadvantages of the existing wireless system using wireless sensors are reliability, scalability and time-synchronization accuracy. To overcome the current limitations, a new wireless system has been designed. Instead of using wireless sensors in this the ultrasonic sensors are used to identify the defects present in the infrastructures. This type of sensors can be movable across the surface of the infrastructures. As a result the number of client modules that has to be fixed in infrastructure will get decreased. The data observed by the ultrasonic sensor is transmitted to the server module from the client module in wireless medium by using zigbee module. Network has been tested on a real-world structure, solving a myriad of problems encountered in a real deployment in difficult conditions.
